Last year, our St Saviour's Community Project experienced rapid growth. This included the shop (selling essential items at greatly reduced prices) with children's clothes and funiture being particularly popular. In addition, the foodbank was being increasingly used by local people. However, we don't just want to he a charity helping people struggling with poverty; we want to help people overcome poverty and not to be needing our help.
As part of this, we have been working with Healthy High Green and Heeley Development Trust by hosting a Job Club in our community centre. This is open on Tuesday afternoons 1.00 – 300pm. There are specialist advisers present who will help people to create and/or update their CV, help with applications, search job and training websites, offer interview tips and help people to find mutual support.
The Job Club has only just started and we are seeing a real response. We, at St Saviour's, are very keen to work with partner agencies and are very glad that our project is being used as a base for this work. We hope to announce other developments in due course.
