We have just had Remembrance Sunday at St Saviour's. In addition to the service at our church, I was asked to join the open air event at Chapeltown. Both the service and the memorial event at Chapeltown were very well attended, about 500 people at the latter.
When I was ordained in the eighties, most clergy thought that Remembrance Sunday was unlikely to continue into the next millennium. Now, with schools teaching both world wars and with increasing awareness of the price our armed forces are often tragically having to pay, the situation has been transformed.
I found Remembrance Sunday very moving and challenging. Long may that continue.
